'Innocence of Muslims' made by softcore porn director?

Crude film that has caused wave of anti-American violence could have been helmed by Alan Roberts

The director of the controversial anti-Islam film 'Innocence of Muslims' could be a low-budget softcore porn director called Alan Roberts, it has emerged.

It's claimed that Roberts, who made several films in the 70s, 80s and 90s, is listed as the director in the casting sheets of the film, which was originally called 'Desert Warriors'.

Roberts' previous work includes films like 'The Happy Hooker Goes To Hollywood', 'The Sexpert', 'Panorama Blue' which featured porn legend John Holmes, 'Save Me', an erotic thriller starring Harry Hamlin, and 'Young Lady Chatterley', made in 1977.

A business partner of Roberts, speaking to the Gawker website, said that Roberts was unaware that the producer of the film - a man known as Sam Bacile whose real name is thought to be Nakoula Basseley Nakoula - had redubbed the voices of the actors to include offensive slights on Islam.

“They redubbed it, they brought in the actors, put in new sounds, changed the names. And this was done later, before it was initially released. Of course Alan had nothing to do with it,” the partner said.

The cast of the film has also said that is was misled.

A statement released to CNN read: “The entire cast and crew are extremely upset and feel taken advantage of by the producer. We are 100% not behind this film and were grossly misled about its intent and purpose. We are shocked by the drastic re-writes of the script and lies that were told to all involved. We are deeply saddened by the tragedies that have occurred.”

The footage from the film, which appeared online and shows the prophet Mohammed as a criminal and child molester, has caused outrage and violent protest around the world.

The US has now withdrawn its diplomats from Tunisia and Sudan amid mounting anti-American violence after extremists killed the US ambassador to Libya and three other US citizens in Benghazi last week in what is thought may have been a related attack.
