10 New Movies To Watch In May

It’s a great month to be a film fan… especially if you love ‘X-Men’ or ‘Warcraft’.

That’s right folks – it’s a bumper month for film fans this May, with an awesome range of blockbusters, indies and even the weirdly-tantalising ‘Angry Birds’ video game adaptation. We’ve got Patrick Stewart’s latest flick and even an appearance from George Clooney and Julia Roberts.

But which are the best movies this month?

Bad Neighbours 2 – 6 May

It’s the hit comedy sequel we’ve all been waiting for…

‘Bad Neighbours 2’ stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne as the beleaguered couple from the first movie… but as they’re expecting their second child, it seems they’ve realised it’s time to move house. Of course, they first have to help out Teddy (played by Zac Efron) who reveals that a new sorority is in town… and led by Chloe Grace Moretz, they mean business.

Florence Foster Jenkins – 6 May

A biographical-comedy about a New York Heiress.

‘Florence Foster Jenkins’ stars Meryl Streep as the titular socialite – an opera singer who gained notoriety (and indeed, fame) for her lack of singing ability. Hugh Grant co-stars as British stage actor, St. Clair Bayfield, with Simon Helberg as the American pianist and composer, Cosmé McMoon.

Not your usual biopic, ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’ promises something a bit different.

Angry Birds – 13 May

It’s happening. ‘The Angry Birds Movie’ is really happening.

‘The Angry Birds Movie’ brings the hugely popular videogame to the big screen… and with a host of American comedy talent on board, it actually sounds alright. Jason Sudeikis stars as Red – a constantly-angry bird who goes over the edge with the arrival of a group of pigs (led by Bill Hader).

But will Red fend them off and save the Angry Birds’ eggs? Do we really care?

Everybody Wants Some!! – 13 May

Who doesn’t want to watch a film about 1980s college baseball?

‘Everybody Wants Some!!’ is the latest film from Oscar-nominated director, Richard Linklater… and stars Blake Jenner as a hotshot college baseball pitcher who’s forced to move in with the rest of his team. All about drinking, cruising chicks and enjoying the student lifestyle, it’s easy to pin this down as a coming-of-age flick… but it’s far more than that.

‘Everybody Wants Some!!’ gives us a glimpse of 1980s student life.. and all its troubles.

Green Room – 13 May

Ever wanted to see Patrick Stewart as a neo-nazi?

‘Green Room’ is a new horror-thriller starring Anton Yelchin as a member of the punk band ‘The Ain’t Rights’. Imogen Poots joins him as a nightclub regular who gets caught up in a twisted murder-plot at the hands of a sadistic group of neo-nazis. Thrust together in order to survive, they face off against Patrick Stewart and his band of merry murderers.

But can they ever escape the Green Room?

X-Men Apocalypse – 18 May

The X-men are back… but Apocalypse means business.

The latest ‘X-Men’ sequel, ‘Apocalypse’ stars Oscar Isaac as the titular baddie – an ancient mutant hell-bent on destroying the earth to reclaim it for his mutant brethren. And it looks as though Magneto is eager to help him. Starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult, ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ could be the biggest ‘X-Men’ movie yet.

And it even reintroduces some fan favourites such as Cyclops and Jean Grey.

Alice Through The Looking Glass – 27 May

Mia Wasikowska is back as Alice…

‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’ sees Alice Kingsleigh return to the fantastical world of Underland… but this time, things have taken a turn for the worse. The Mad Hatter (played by Johnny Depp) is in a terrible state, and it soon appears that Alice must save her friends from Time – a part-clockwork nightmare who could put an end to Underland once and for all.

And it features Alan Rickman as Absolom the Caterpillar. What more could you want?

Money Monster – 27 May

Taking financial tips from a daytime TV show? What could go wrong?

‘Money Monster’ stars George Clooney as a TV financial advisor who is kidnapped when one of his loyal viewers loses everything following a bad tip. Jack O’Connell co-stars as the poor sap who loses his family’s money… with Julia Roberts as Clooney’s TV producer. It’s a tense thriller which plays out live on TV – a modern-day ‘Dog Day Afternoon’.

Directed by Jodie Foster, it could end up being a surprise hit.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 – 30 May

No half-shells this time – the Turtles are back with some classic foes.

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 2’ picks up some time after the first movie… and it looks as though the iconic villain Shredder is back. Hell-bent on defeating the Turtles once and for all, he hires scientist Dr. Baxter Stockman (played by Tyler Perry) to create his own mutants. The result? Classic henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady.

And that’s not all – Dimension X makes an appearance as Krang assaults the city.

Warcraft – 30 May

It’s Alliance versus Horde… or is it?

‘Warcraft’ heads to Azeroth – the video game fantasy world where Orcs and Humans regularly collide. But ‘Warcraft’ tells the story of their first meeting… Facing a horde of Orc invaders, the humans are quick to defend themselves. But with the Orcs facing extinction on a dying world, their plight may not be what it seems. After all, a sinister orc warlock named Gul’dan may be behind it all…

‘Warcraft’ features an all-star cast, including Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper and Toby Kebbell.
