Amber Midthunder has revealed the action scene she is most proud of in new Predator movie Prey (on Disney+ from 5 August) — and it's not the one you'd expect.

The Legion star leads the cast of director Dan Trachtenberg's film, which follows a Comanche tribe who are both hunters and hunted when a Predator arrives on Earth close to their home.

Midthunder plays Naru — a young woman hoping to prove herself as a capable hunter — who sees her opportunity when the biggest beast any of them have ever seen shows up.

The cast underwent a four-week boot camp on the set in Calgary, Canada before the shoot, learning how best to use their weapons, but it was a different skill that Midthunder treasured on set.

"Ironically, the story that we keep talking about is really not a big moment at all, but in the shooting it really felt like a big moment," Midthunder told Yahoo when asked about her proudest action achievement.

The 25-year-old added: "My hands were bound and it was this moment where I had to get out of the thing to do anything. How do I get my hands untied?

"We were talking about that and Dan was saying 'something needs to happen'. I was like 'can I flip it?' and he was like 'do you lean back on it somehow?'. I was flipping it and flipping it and I just happened to do it perfectly, so I was like 'we'll just do that'.

"Then of course we'd go to shoot it and every time it falls to my side or it hits me in the face or something stupid would happen. He was like 'maybe we should figure something out' and I was like 'no, I got it'.

"We went and that was the last take where we got it perfect and he was like 'that's the only one we needed'. It was this big victory moment and, of course, it's like 0.5 seconds in the actual movie."

Midthunder said it was "very important" to Trachtenberg and the cast that the actors were able to do as many of the stunts and weapon-based scenes as possible, with the boot camp helping to highlight their skills.

"It was a lot of figuring out when it was most important to be dynamic and when it was most important to be efficient," said the star.

She added: "So much of the training camp was also people figuring out: 'what am I proficient at?' Is it archery? Is it the lance? What is my best weapon?

"And then incorporating that into their character and being open with the stunts and guiding towards each person's skills. What is the coolest thing I can do with this weapon?"

Midthunder pointed to the sign language used by the Comanches in the film as something that arose from the chemistry between the actors during the boot camp.

"We developed the sign language that you see in the movie based off real Comanche sign language," she said.

Midthunder added: "The sign language was not originally a part of the movie. That was not a part of the script. That was something that happened at boot camp that then got put into the movie."

With her action hero credentials now firmly established, Midthunder will not be short of offers in the blockbuster world, but the star wants to make sure she continues to work with "great filmmakers".

She said: "What I'm really chasing is any kind of good art or good filmmaking and something that feels challenging.

"If that's another action movie and it's in a big franchise again, then I'm there. If it's in a musical, I'll do it. It's just to me what feels the most quality."

The film's director Dan Trachtenberg has said he would love to make a sequel to Prey and, with a tease for the future hidden in the movie's credits, this new corner of the Predator universe could keep growing.

Prey is available to stream via Star on Disney+ from 5 August.
