Phoebe Waller-Bridge gave voice to Ana De Armas's character in 'No Time To Die'

In case you're wondering where specifically we might hear Fleabag creator Pheobe Waller-Bridge's voice in the new Bond movie, listen out for Ana De Armas's character Paloma.

The Cuban-born actress plays a CIA agent in No Time To Die, who encounters Bond on his latest mission, self-described in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last year as 'very irresponsible'.

According to a cover profile on the actress in Vanity Fair, and according to Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, director Cary Fukunaga specifically conceived the role for De Armas.

Broccoli adds: “The expectation is that she’s not going to be the most proficient agent, but let’s just say that she really packs a punch.”

But it was apparently Waller-Bridge who ended up giving Paloma her voice.

“You could also tell that Phoebe was in there,” says De Armas. “There was that humor and spikiness so specific to her. My character feels like a real woman.

“But you know, we can evolve and grow and incorporate reality, but Bond is a fantasy. In the end, you can’t take things out of where they live.”

Waller-Bridge reportedly came on board to finesse the script at the recommendation of Daniel Craig, who was a fan of her work on Fleabag and also the thriller series Killing Eve.

"We met for coffee and then a few months later we met again. And then I met the director Cary Joji Fukunaga and then I met Daniel after that. But I know Daniel and Barbara had been talking about it for while," Waller-Bridge told the BBC, adding that she brought ‘little spices’ to the script.

De Armas also says that she didn't want to be a typical Bond girl, due to the baggage that comes with them.

“Obviously I was jumping all over the place and very excited,” she goes on. “But I needed to be sure it wouldn’t jeopardize all the work I’d been putting in, that it wouldn’t ruin everything. And the Bond women have always been, for me at least, unrelatable.”

De Armas joins fellow new female cast-member Lashana Lynch on the bill for Daniel Craig's final Bond movie, playing fellow MI6 '00' agent Nomi, who was drafted into the service following Bond's retirement.

The action takes place five years after the events of Spectre, with Jeffrey Wright's Felix Leiter calling on Bond to help him in a case involving a missing scientist.

Also starring Naomie Harris, Lea Seydoux, Ralph Fiennes, Christoph Waltz and Rami Malek, as new villain Safin, the movie lands in the UK on 4 April.
