'The Batman' due to return to filming in the UK from September

The Batman is due to return to production in the UK next month, following a lengthy delay due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Matt Reeves’s superhero tale — starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader — had been shooting in London earlier this year before cameras were switched off as the UK entered lockdown.

Variety has now reported that the production will return to Leavesden Studios in September.

The publication revealed that sets have been built at the site, with around three months of filming left to complete.

Reeves and his team could theoretically complete production before the end of the year.

The Batman had its release date moved when the pandemic shut down production, moving from June 2021 to October 2021.

Pattinson and many of the other cast members have remained in London throughout the quarantine period.

The British Film Commission published new guidelines in June for the ways in which movie productions could ensure COVID-19 safety standards on their sets.

Warner Bros, meanwhile, has brought in a system by which cast and crew can report rule-breaking if they are uncomfortable while working.

The Batman is set to focus on a younger version of Bruce Wayne, in the early days of his vigilante career.

As well as Pattinson, the movie will feature Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler and Colin Farrell as The Penguin.

Andy Serkis, who is portraying Wayne’s butler Alfred, said earlier this year that the “exquisite script” will tell the darkest version of the Batman story to date.

Warner Bros is evidently keen on Reeves’s vision, as it has hired the director to develop a cop show set within Gotham for the HBO Max streaming service.
