Beyonce Is Too Expensive For Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born

Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut, the planned remake of ‘A Star Is Born’, may have hit a snag with its potential leading lady.

Beyoncé, who was being eyed for the role in the remake of the 50s musical, is reportedly too expensive for him.

And it may be that it’s put the brakes on the project altogether.

A source told Page Six: “Beyoncé wanted too much money, and Warner Bros. balked at her price. The production budget was also said to be an issue with the studio, so the project has fallen apart.”

However, another source added that while Beyoncé is out, there’s still hope that the production can continue.

“Bradley has started reading scripts for his next acting project. But the ‘Star Is Born’ project remains in development and Bradley is still involved,” they said.

A final third source added: “This project is something Bradley has been involved with for a long time. It has gone on the back burner, but he’s still working on it, among other projects.”

The original 'A Star Is Born’, released in 1954, starred Judy Garland as a young singer and actress who is helped towards fame by a fading, alcoholic star, played by James Mason.

The screenplay was penned by, among others, literary icon Dorothy Parker, and was itself a remake of the 1937 film, starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March.

It was also remade in 1976 as a rock musical starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

This latest version of the movie has been in development for some years now, at least since 2011, where Clint Eastwood was in the mix to direct, and talk of Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio in line for the male lead.
