Bill Murray really missed working alongside Harold Ramis and Rick Moranis while filming the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

The legendary comedian admitted as much during his recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres, saying that the pair were “greatly missed for so many reasons,” adding, "They were so much a part of the creation of [Ghostbusters] and the fun of it."

But while Murray would obviously have loved for either Ramis or Moranis to have been involved, he did make sure to tease that Ramis’ beloved character Egon is “featured in the story of the movie,” before insisting, “So, it will be very interesting."

Ramis was one of the key figures in the creation of the Ghostbusters franchise, as he wrote the first two films alongside fellow star Dan Aykroyd, while also playing the role of paranormal scientist Egon Spengler, too.

Unfortunately, Ramis, who also wrote and directed Caddyshack and Groundhog Day, passed away at the age of 69 on February 24, 2014.

Meanwhile Moranis hasn’t starred in a live-action film since 1997, although he is going to make a return in the upcoming sequel to Honey, I Shrunk The Kids for Disney +.

But, despite the absence of Ramis and Moranis, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is still very much a family affair. Not only are Murray, Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts reprising their Ghostbusters characters, but it has been written and directed by Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman, who just so happened to direct the first two installments, too.

We have quite a while to wait until Ghostbusters: Afterlife is with us, as its original release date of July 10, 2020, has been pushed back all the way to March 5, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
