Burberry Christmas ad starring Domhnall Gleeson should be made into a real film, demands the internet

Around this time each year the festive adverts begin to appear, but the 2016 one for fashion designer Burberry starring Domhnall Gleeson and Sienna Miller has gotten people talking.

The short film - which is technically an advert even though it lasts over three-and-a-half minutes - is the latest campaign for the Burberry brand, called ‘The Tale of Thomas Burberry’.

Directed by Asif Kapadia, the Oscar-winning documentary maker of ‘Amy’ and the superb ‘Senna’, the short film features some stellar acting talent alongside ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ villain Gleeson and ‘Cinderella’s’ Lily James, with Dominic West completing an impressive roster.

To be honest, Kapadia shoots this short so well we can’t help but wonder what it’d be like as an actual film, and with that cast in place who wouldn’t want to see it on the big screen?

It tells the take of Thomas Burberry (Gleeson) who begins his working life and gradually builds his fashion empire from the ground, amidst the horror of World War I. The story also focuses on his personal life with his love interest (Miller), polar explorer, friend, and colleague Ernest Shackleton (West), and James, who’s the current face of Burberry, as a fictionalised pilot based on famed pilot Betty Kirby-Green.

There were plenty of Twitter users who wanted to see a feature length version, and rightly so.

And regardless of how poignant the likes of John Lewis’s Christmas ad will no doubt be, ‘The Tale of Thomas Burberry’ will surely be this year’s most cinematic.
