Cameras are set to roll on Thor: Love and Thunder, and so Chris Hemsworth is lifting and pushing heavy things.

Shifting some of that lockdown weight – not to mention Endgame weight – it looks like Thor will be back to his buff old self for the Taika Waititi-directed movie.

A snap from his Instagram page shows the Australian actor lifting up a giant tyre-style weight, or, as he calls it, an 'extra large donut' in his 'cheat day'.

Judging by his rippling physique, it looks like doughnuts are currently off the menu.

Chris Pratt, who will be reprising his role as Guardians of the Galaxy’s Peter Quill, aka Star Lord, in the movie, even jumped on the comments.

“Hey Bud,” he replied to the pic (which at the time of writing had well over four million likes). “Just heard from my trainer and he needs you to stop because since we’re going to be in the same movie and everything, he doesn’t want me to stand next to you if you look like that so I’m gonna need you to put on 25lbs real quick cool thanks.”

Seems fair.

Hemsworth, while being interviewed last month, confirmed that filming for the fourth Thor movie is set to begin in January, having been pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Very excited, excited to try something different,” he said. “The last three films, I think we certainly pushed the envelope. We’ve had a few different versions of the character. Now people expect dramatic change. We’ve got our work cut out for us. Taika Waititi, he’s back to direct. He’s writing the script right now. Natalie Portman is going to be in the film, Tessa Thompson. So, we’ve got a fantastic slew of actor’s in there, and cast and crew.”

The change is indeed somewhat dramatic – last we saw of Thor, he'd stacked on the weight after the traumatic events of Avengers: Infinity War, looking pretty portly and unkempt throughout Avengers: Endgame, thanks to a contentious fat suit.

Waititi is indeed back on board, after smashing it out of the park with Thor: Ragnarok in 2017.

And the movie may also feature some radical plot departures too, with Portman back as Jane Foster, likely to assume the role of the female incarnation of Thor, as seen in the comic books.

Part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's much-delayed Phase Four, the movie is set for release in February, 2022.
