Cillian Murphy has hinted that people will be "very surprised" by Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.

Like all of Nolan's films, there has been intense secrecy around the project even though it is based on the life story of actual theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer — known as the father of the atomic bomb after World War II.

Murphy stopped short of revealing anything concrete about Oppenheimer's secrets, but he did hint "there’s an awful lot to talk about when we can talk freely".

"The question will be how Chris presents it,” Cillian added. “I think people will be very surprised and wowed by what he does. Anything I say will just seem a bit lame as compared to seeing this in an IMAX theater.”

The Peaky Blinders star did say that he was quite determined to capture Oppenheimer's distinctive style because the man "seemed aware of his own potential mythology".

"I’m really proud of the movie and I’m really proud of what Chris has achieved," Cillian added. "This was, for sure, a special one, certainly because of the history with me and Chris. We were not walking around the set high fiving, but it did feel special."

He went on: "It’s an event every time he releases a film, and rightly so. Whether I’m in them or not, I always go to see his movies."

His co-star Matt Damon recently praised Cillian's performance in the movie, teasing that the actor is "everything you would want him to be" in the movie.

Nolan's incredible cast also includes Oscar winner Rami Malek, Marvel star Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt and Sir Kenneth Branagh, among dozens of other recognisable faces.

Oppenheimer, which is based on the book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J Robert Oppenheimer, is set for release on July 21, 2023.
