The Craft: Legacy star Cailee Spaeny was terrified for real on the set of the new movie, when she experienced a spooky supernatural event after leaving her phone unattended.

The 23-year-old star plays Lily — the new fourth member of a coven of witches — in the film, which serves as a reboot of the 1996 movie The Craft.

It was while playing a witch, though, that Spaeny found herself chilled by a discovery she made while exploring a filming location.

“They ended up renting out a spot that used to be a hospital in the early 1800s that around 700 people had died in,” Spaeny tells Yahoo Movies UK.

“We were filming one of the scenes and I was hanging up in the attic space to get into character and prep. They called me down to do a take and I left my phone in the attic.

“I went back upstairs and was looking at my camera roll like 'what is this?'. It was this perfect orb. It looks like an eyeball. It was pretty frightening.“

Spaeny says her fear dissipated when she discussed the event with Erin Fogel — an expert in witchcraft who served as a consultant on the movie’s set.

The actor adds: “She was like 'yes, it's very common for energies and spirits to tap into phones'.

“She said it was a guiding spirit and the colour said it was a guiding spirit, which is what I felt on set as well. That's my spooky story for you.”

There are plenty of creepy happenings in the movie too, which updates the story of a teenage witch coven for the 21st century.

Alongside Spaeny, the movie features Lovie Simone, Zoey Luna and Gideon Adlon as the coven members, with Michelle Monaghan and David Duchovny leading the adult cast.
