Daniel Radcliffe thanks parents for his 'evil' British accent

Daniel Radcliffe has thanked his parents for giving him a "naturally evil" accent.

Radcliffe made the comments after winning Best Villain at the MTV Movie and TV Awards for his performance in The Lost City.

Making his acceptance speech via video link, the Harry Potter star thanked his parents for having “the foresight all those years ago” to make him British which gave him a "naturally evil" accent.

Radcliffe added: “If I’m being honest the thing that makes my job easiest is just being English. This is the universally recognised accent of pure evil… a voice that would kick a puppy, or not give Oliver Twist more food."

Radcliffe also thanked his co-stars Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum and said it was “genuinely really, really cool” to pick up the award for the film.

To win the award, Radcliffe beat out Colin Farrell in The Batman, Willem Dafoe in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Victoria Pedretti in You and James Jade Courtney from Halloween Kills.

Sandra Bullock was also nominated for Best Performance for her role in the film, but Tom Holland won that award for playing Spider-Man in No Way Home.

Spider-Man: No Way Home also won Best Movie, beating out Scream, The Batman, The Adam Project, Dune and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Later this year, Radcliffe is set to appear in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story as the eponymous comedy musician.

The film will tell the story of Yankovic who is best known for his humourous hits such as 'White & Nerdy' and 'Couch Potato'.

Also starring in the film is Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna and Rainn Wilson as Dr Demento, a disc jockey who helped bring Yankovic to fame in the 1970s.
