'Shaun of the Dead' director Edgar Wright reveals his 100 favourite comedy movies for isolation viewing

Laughter is the best medicine. That's just science.

As such, filling ones boots with comedy movies might be one of the best ways to lift spirits in these troubled, locked-down times.

So Shaun of the Dead and Baby Driver director (and huge film nerd) Edgar Wright has published his top 100 recommendations.

Posting to the movie review and list site Letterboxd, Wright writes: “To get you through these tough times, please enjoy a generous helping of SOME of my favourite screen comedies that I’ve enjoyed over the years.

“I could easily do another 100 so don’t say ‘Where’s so and so?’. Just sit back and enjoy the movies. Let us know below, which ones you raise a smile.

“(NB: No, I'm not so immodest to put my own on here x).”

There are a fair share of early classics, such as Harold Lloyd's Safety Last, and Chaplin movies like The Gold Rush and City Lights, through to the Marx Brothers' Duck Soup and Laurel and Hardy's The Music Box.

From the 70s and 80s, there are selections like Harold and Maude, Play It Again Sam, Young Frankenstein, The Jerk and Blazing Saddles.

Then more recent examples include Andy Samberg's Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, What We Do In The Shadows and Superbad.

Though it's US heavy, there are also a few British movies in there, including Gregory's Girl, Le Donk and Scor-zay-zee and The Trip.
