Ewan McGregor has updated on the shooting status of the new Star Wars spin-off series based on his prequel movie character Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The Scottish actor confirmed the series will commence shooting in the late spring, and that it will all be happening in Los Angeles.

The Trainspotting star made the comments while appearing on comedian Eddie Izzard's live stream of her charity ultra-marathon Make Humanity Great Again.

As Izzard ran, McGregor explained: “We start making it in the late spring, and I think we’re going to be shooting it here in L.A.

“It’s so funny – every week there’s a new report. There’s another tabloid expose that we’re shooting it in some bizarre town somewhere.

“Then we’re meant to be making it in Boston, then, ‘No, it wasn’t Boston, it was Boston, England.’ But we’re not. We’re shooting it in L.A. There you have it, folks.”

He went on to confirm that the show will use the same technology as The Mandalorian, the StageCraft tech, in which the show's detailed SFX backgrounds are projected onto ultra-high resolution screens behind the actors.

McGregor also confirmed that Deborah Chow, who directed two episodes in the first series of The Mandalorian, will be behind the camera.

“She's brilliant, and I'm really looking forward to working with her,” he said.

“It'll just be great to do it again. I did my last one in 2003. The idea of doing it again now is more exciting even than it was then. I always felt that there was a story between my [movies] and Alec Guinness's [Obi-Wan].”

The show will indeed take place between the final movie of George Lucas's prequels, Revenge Of The Sith, and A New Hope.

It was also confirmed late last year that Hayden Christensen will be back to play Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader, though in what capacity we don't yet know.
