Here's our first look at Trainspotting star Kelly Macdonald, set to make her debut in hit BBC police drama Line of Duty.

Macdonald is the show's guest series lead, playing Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson, 'the senior investigating officer on an unsolved murder case whose unconventional conduct attracts the attention of AC-12'.

What that 'unconventional conduct' might involve is being kept under wraps for now, but it sounds like Macdonald will be a suspected bent copper, and is said to be the anti-corruption team’s ‘most enigmatic adversary’ yet.

Filming has just wrapped on series six of the show, after extensive disruption due to the coronavirus pandemic, resulting in the shoot being abandoned in March.

A five-month long hiatus later, and the production resumed in late August.

Show creator Jed Mercurio tweeted: “We couldn't have done it without the dedication of cast, crew and supporting artistes to rigorous CoViD safety. Not a single day's filming lost, and 100+ colleagues finished the shoot in good health. We looked out for each other. We followed the science.”

Martin Compston, who plays Steve Arnott in the show, also chimed in, dubbing Mercurio's scripts for the season 'superb'.

He added: “Tip of the cap to the production team for putting the protocols in place to provide a safe working environment and to the phenomenal crew, having the discipline and determination to work with the new parameters to get us over the line.”

Series regulars Compston, Adrian Dunbar and Vicky McClure will all be returning to the show, which will hit screens sometime in 2021.
