Yahoo Movies First trailer for Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch's new horror movie
The terrifying first trailer for Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch's new horror movie The Strangers: Chapter 1 has arrived.
The film follows a young couple (played by Petsch and Cruel Summer's Froy Gutierrez) who journey cross country to start a new life, though danger strikes when they are forced to stay in a secluded Airbnb after their car breaks down.
In the clip, we get a sense of the dark twists and turns to come, as Maya and Ryan arrive at the location before increasingly disturbing events start to take place, including masked people appearing and a bird dripping blood from the ceiling.

"Why are you doing this to us?" a terrified Maya begs as she's tied up to a chair, before a masked assailant replies: "Because you're here…".
The new movie is the first part of a planned trilogy, and is a remake of the 2008 horror movie The Strangers starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman.
Director Renny Harlin previously opened up to Entertainment Weekly about casting Petsch and Gutierrez, explaining: "Obviously Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman did a fantastic job in the original film and those were some big shoes to fill.

"We looked long and hard for our scream queen. When I spoke with Madelaine, I just knew that she was an exceptional person, exceptional actor, and that's what it took to play this part.
"In the same way, after looking long and hard, we found Froy Gutierrez, who is another wonderful young actor.
"We wanted a couple who feel natural and relaxed together. Their relationship, maybe it's not identical to the relationship in the original film, but it's something that feels very natural and very real, and that to me was the key to this movie and this trilogy. It's the realism."
The Strangers: Chapter 1 comes to US cinemas on May 17, 2024.
