Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman's Netflix rom-com A Family Affair has dropped its first trailer.

Set to premiere on the streaming platform next month, the story centers on a young woman named Zara (Bullet Train's Joey King), whose mother Brooke (Kidman) strikes up a romantic relationship with her movie star boss Chris (Efron).

As you'd expect, all the awkwardness that comes with that is explored in the footage, with Zara even walking in on the pair getting busy in the bedroom. She then knocks herself out on an architrave while trying to escape this nightmare-inducing encounter.

"After two years of being his assistant I know him very well, he's self-absorbed and selfish," Zara warns Brooke, with Chris's stuck-up standards illustrated in another scene.

"You put my shahtoosh in a plastic bag with my dirty sneakers? It's one of a kind, I only have two!" he shouts at her.

Elsewhere in the cast for A Family Affair is the Oscar-winning Misery actor Kathy Bates, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' Liza Koshy and Only Murders in the Building's Shirley MacLaine.

Meanwhile, reflecting on his last cinematic role as wrestler Kevin Von Erich in The Iron Claw, Efron recently exclusively told Digital Spy about the feeling of vulnerability.

"I think all of us were a bit taken for a ride, so naturally we had to link arms and move forward through this process that was uncomfortable and draining at times — [it] left us at our most vulnerable. And that's really when you get to see people's true colours," he said.

"It was clear that these guys were just awesome individuals and really fun to work with. So our brotherly bond, it was so natural, it was something we really did not have to force, it never came up once as an issue on set."

A Family Affair begins streaming on Netflix from Friday, June 28.
