'Friends' reunion delayed amid the coronavirus outbreak

The Friends reunion is apparently the latest show to be postponed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Jennifer Aniston and co were due to film the eagerly awaited special this month and it was expected to arrive on upcoming on-demand service HBO Max in May.

But US industry publications are reporting that the reunion has been put on hold.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production has been delayed until at least May.

The special will see Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer reunite on screen 16 years after the hit comedy wrapped in 2004.

Speculation about a possible reunion had been swirling for years and it was finally confirmed in February.

The cast announced the news with identical pictures on Instagram, writing: “It’s happening…”

While little is known about the show, Cox did assure fans it would be “fantastic” when she made an appearance on web series Hiking With Kevin Nealon.

Friends fans have told of their disappointment about the reunion being disrupted.

“This is the final straw,” wrote one person on Twitter, while others posted crying emojis.

Several productions have been affected by the outbreak of Covid-19, which started at the end of last year and has now seen more than 219,000 people around the world infected.

Filming on series such as Riverdale and Grey’s Anatomy has been suspended, and movies such as A Quiet Place Part II and No Time To Die have been pushed back.
