Glen Powell is attached to lead a remake of the 1978 comedy Heaven Can Wait.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news, with Oscar-winning Traffic screenwriter Stephen Gaghan also involved with the project.

Based on Harry Segall's original play, Heaven Can Wait starred Warren Beatty as NFL quarterback Joe Pendleton, who passes away unexpectedly before being offered a second chance at life in the body of a murdered millionaire.

Gaghan's concept will reportedly not feature a sportsman, but it'll still see a man being ripped away from existence before his time.

This comes soon after it was revealed that Top Gun: Maverick's Powell passed on the next Jurassic franchise movie, which has The Creator's Gareth Edwards on directing duties and Scarlett Johansson co-leading.

"Jurassic [Park] is one of my favourite movies. It's one of the things I've wanted to do my whole life," the actor told The Hollywood Reporter.

"I'm not doing that movie because I read the script and I immediately was like, my presence in this movie doesn't help it. And the script's great. The movie's going to f**king kill. It's not about that. It's about choosing where you're going to make an audience happy and where you're going to make yourself happy."

This summer marks Powell's biggest of his career so far, with both Venice Film Festival darling Hit Man and disaster sequel Twisters due out on the big screen very soon.

Explaining how Twisters won't be a carry-on from 1996's Twister, co-writer Mark L Smith said during a Collider interview last Christmas: "It's a separate story. It's not a continuation of the original. But it's just a real wild ride with some good, fun characters.

"Hopefully, we can tap into what the original had because that thing is just iconic."

Twisters premieres July 19 in cinemas.
