Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes has admitted that she's not a fan of children. (And who can blame her?)

Miriam, who played Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films, explained during an interview on The Project that she doesn't like kids, despite working with them.

"I don't like children. I don't want to be with children," Miriam said. "I wish them well. I genuinely do. I'd kill anyone who hurt a child."

She added: "But I don't want them near me!"

When asked why, Miriam joked: "They make noise and they take attention from me."

Meanwhile, Miriam Margolyes has joined the cast of Call the Midwife as the "forthright and indefatigable" Sister Mildred.

The eighth series of the BBC One medical drama returned last weekend, and is set against Poplar celebrating the Queen giving birth to Prince Edward in 1964.

The team behind Call the Midwife have said that they have high hopes that the new series will raise issues important enough to save some viewers' lives.

"We see the start of smear tests and she’s very much instrumental in pushing that into the Poplar community," actress Helen George (Nurse Trixie Franklin) told Digital Spy and other media. "So you see her fronting campaigns for women’s rights."

Call the Midwife airs on BBC One.
