Hayley Atwell has joined the production of Mission: Impossible 7 in Norway, one year since Christopher McQuarrie announced the Captain America star would be a part of the blockbuster spy franchise.

The 38-year-old Brit, who led the Marvel spin-off show Agent Carter for two seasons, shared two images on her official Instagram: a masked selfie with the caption “back to work”, and another panoramic shot of Norwegian landscape with the caption “the office”, both accompanied by the hashtag #MissionImpossible.

The seventh Mission: Impossible film was due to start shooting in Italy in February this year, but was shut down by the coronavirus pandemic. It resumed shooting at Leavesden Studios in July this year, and Atwell shared a photo of herself on 6 July, showing her bruised bare back with the #MissionImpossible hashtag.

It’s not yet clear whether she’ll be an antagonist for Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, or an ally, but she’s been training for the role over the past year since joining the cast.

In December 2019, Atwell shared a photo of herself undergoing firearms training for the film, saying she’d learned to handle “snipers, pistols, shot guns, and 50 cal” guns under “expert supervision”. Earlier the same month she shared a video of herself drifting a high-powered sports car, following race training for the film.

Earlier this week, cameras captured Tom Cruise performing one of his trademark daredevil stunts for Mission: Impossible 7 in Norway, riding a motorbike off the top of towering cliff before deploying his parachute.

Atwell and Cruise will be joined in the film by Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales and Henry Czerny. It will be filmed back-to-back with Mission: Impossible 8 by writer-director Christopher McQuarrie.

Mission: Impossible 7 will hit cinemas in November, 2021.
