James Bond 60th anniversary celebration at BFI announced: How to get tickets

A weekend of events to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the James Bond movies has been announced by the British Film Institute (BFI).

Taking place on 1-2 October, 2022 at BFI Southbank and BFI IMAX, the anniversary celebrations will comprise of screenings and events.

The BFI will also be honouring long time Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson with BFI Fellowships in recognition of 'the pair’s extraordinary achievements and enormous contribution to cinema'.

The BFI regularly holds 007 events to mark anniversaries, with the most recent happening in 2019 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

George Lazenby held a Q&A after a screening of his sole outing as 007, on the day which also saw screenings of 1979's Moonraker and 1999's The World Is Not Enough.

With 2022 marking 60 years since the release of Dr No, you can expect Sean Connery's 007 debut to feature in the weekend of screenings. Other Bond titles celebrating anniversaries in 2022 include 2002's Die Another Day, and 2012's Skyfall.

The BFI Fellowship was presented to Wilson and Broccoli at the BFI Chair’s Dinner, hosted by BFI Chair Tim Richards, on 28 June at Claridges, London. They join other BFI Fellows including Martin Scorsese and Thelma Schoonmaker, Tilda Swinton, Sir David Lean, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, Nicholas Roeg CBE, Orson Welles, Sir Ridley Scott, Dame Judi Dench, and Sir Steve McQueen.

The filmmaking siblings, who took over the reins of the Bond franchise from their father Albert R 'Cubby' Broccoli from 1995's GoldenEye onwards, said: “We are so proud to be awarded the BFI Fellowship on behalf of all of those who have been a part of the James Bond series over 60 years and feel honoured to join such an esteemed group of distinguished industry fellows.

Tim Richards the BFI Chair paid tribute to the duo saying: “I am honoured and excited to be awarding Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli with the prestigious BFI Fellowship.

The James Bond films are being re-released in UK and Ireland cinemas throughout the year. This weekend sees the release of 1977's The Spy Who Loved Me, starring Sir Roger Moore as 007.
