Kingsman 2: Full Title & Concept Art Revealed

Not wishing to slight the success of this year’s ‘Deadpool,’ but you’d think from the overall reaction that it was the first 15/R-rated comic book movie to be a smash hit.

This, of course, is far from the truth, as - to name but one - last year’s 'Kingsman: the Secret Service’ also went down a storm with critics and audiences.

Released in January 2015, director Matthew Vaughn’s live-action take on the comic book he co-conceived with Mark Millar - themselves the team behind earlier R-rated comic book movie ‘Kick-Ass’ - took $414.3 million worldwide (admittedly not quite so impressive as 'Deadpool’s $746 million).

Now, a 'Kingsman’ sequel is in the works, bringing back Vaughn as director, Taron Egerton as chav-turned-secret agent Eggsy, and Mark Strong as mentor Merlin, plus two notable new co-stars in Halle Berry and Julianne Moore. (Edward Holcroft’s Charlie is also said to be returning.)

In a new interview with Empire, Vaughn has revealed the sequel will be entitled 'Kingsman: the Golden Circle,’ and shared some early concept art from the movie (scans and quotes via Comic Book Movie).

As this first image reveals, the Kingsman headquarters will be bombed in the sequel, which leads Eggsy and Merlin overseas to team up with Statesman, the US wing of the Kingsman organisation, which - as the next image reveals - is hidden beneath a whiskey distillery.

It is here, presumably, that the Kingsman agents will team up with Halle Berry’s Ginger, who runs Statesman along with Jack, a “swaggering, sharpshooting cowboy,” whose casting has not yet been announced.

Somehow involved in the bad goings-on is Julianne Moore’s villainess Poppy, who - as this next image reveals - has a headquarters which appears to be a cross between a Mayan ruin and a theme park.

The final image reveals that 'Kingsman: the Golden Circle’ will pay further tribute to Roger Moore era-Bond by featuring a car (in this case a London taxi - possibly the same one owned by Colin Firth’s Galahad in the original?) that is also a submarine - and frankly, we’re only surprised they didn’t find a way to work that into the first one.

This will be the first time Vaughn has directed a sequel to one of his own films, having previously ducked out on 'Kick-Ass 2’ and 'X-Men: First Class’ follow-up ‘Days of Future Past.’ The director admits he had some uncertainty about a ‘Kingsman 2′:

“I didn’t know if I wanted to direct this or not. I was worried about the villain. Spy films are only as good as their villains. Then one morning I woke up with the whole storyline in place, and a new villain plot.”

However, one thing Vaughn and returning co-writer Jane Goldman are less sure about is creating another gun-crazy action sequence to rival that of the first film’s notorious church scene.

“You try not to read what people want, but [the fans] do want another church sequence. I have no reason for another massacre to happen. But I have other sequences you’ve never seen before."

Vaughn also lets slip the tantalising detail that 'Kingsman: the Golden Circle’ will in some way feature a "a massive f***ing frankfurter.” And we can’t wait to see what that might entail.

'Kingsman: the Golden Circle’ is scheduled to hit screens in June 2017.
