Actor, singer, ‘Hamilton’ creator, Academy Award-nominated songwriter and social media favourite Lin-Manuel Miranda let his followers in on Monday’s Oscar luncheon.

The annual lunch honouring this year’s class of nominees, which also included many Academy members as guests, took place at the Beverly Hilton and beyond the usual group photo we don’t typically know much about what takes place there.

Miranda had other ideas, tweeting his experiences with all the glee of a fan, or indeed a first-time nominee. The beloved, multi-talented star was nominated in the Best Original Song category for ‘How Far I’ll Go’ from Disney hit ‘Moana’.

He began by saying he was having “A BIT OF A DAY”, promising to update his followers. In the next post he snapped the Oscar pool-floaties in the hotel’s pool marking the occassion.

Miranda took his mum to the event, who he says “almost floated away” when the pair met Best Actor nominee Viggo Mortensen – nominated for his role in ‘Captain Fantastic’. He later posted a photo his mum with legendary director Steven Spielberg.

The 37-year-old also took pictures of an Oscar statue’s bum (with musician Pharrell next to it for good measure) while the group photo was being organised, and a selfie with Matt Damon and Best Actress nominee Natalie Portman (nominated for ‘Jackie’), who looked very excited.

Should Miranda win his category (a tall order given he’s up against two songs from ‘La La Land’, which is expected to sweep on the night), he’ll be only the thirteenth EGOT winner in history. An EGOT winner is someone who manages to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, and Miranda has already won three.

Miranda attended the lunch while on a break from filming ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ in London alongside Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep.

This year’s Oscars ceremony takes place on Sunday 26 February, or the early hours of Monday morning in the UK.
