MCU star Evangeline Lilly is stepping away from acting

Marvel star Evangeline Lilly has revealed plans to step away from acting.

The actor, best known in recent years for playing Hope van Dyne in the Ant-Man franchise, shared the news in a throwback post on Instagram.

In the clip from before she found widespread fame around 20 years ago, Lilly speaks about her future plans, admitting she would like to be a "retired actress", while also sharing a clip of poet and civil rights icon Maya Angelou.

"I am terrified to admit this to the rest of the acting world, but ideally 10 years from now I'd like to be a retired actress," Lilly says.

"And I would like to have a family, and I'd like to be writing and potentially maybe influencing people's lives in a more humanitarian way."

Writing in the comments, the actor said she is now "stepping away" from the spotlight, explaining that it is a "scary" prospect.

"Thank you @lost_theothers for digging up this (nearly twenty-year-old) footage of me speaking out my dreams under (what looks like) a full moon," she began.

"And thank you to @femalepoetssociety for digging up this (much older) footage of the incredible #mayaangelou perfectly articulating how I feel about life.

"I am so filled with joy and contentment today as I live out my vision. Praise God, I feel so grateful for my blessings," Lilly continued.

"Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can feel scary at times, but stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment."

The star concluded the post by hinting that she may return to acting in the future, writing: "I might return to Hollywood one day, but, for now, this is where I belong. A new season has arrived, and I AM READY...and I AM HAPPY."

Lilly first rose to fame as Kate Austen in Lost, and went on to star as Tauriel in The Hobbit movie trilogy before joining the MCU.
