Superhero Preview 2017
Hollywood's superhero movie juggernaut continues to roll on in 2017 with a veritable feast of costumed heroics. Next year there are ten major movies based on comics old and new, but don't expect any of them to adhere to cliché. Each looks set to offer something different, and something for everyone. The Lego Batman Movie (10 February)
Batman has been taken seriously on the big screen for the best part of 20 years. Some may say too seriously. In 2014's 'The Lego Movie' that changed when Will Arnett stole the show with his excellent spoof. Now Arnett's brooding vigilante is getting his own Lego movie, and it's shaping up to be the closest we've come to tongue-in-cheek feel of Adam West's 60s TV classic. (Credit: Warner Bros Animation)

Logan (3 March)
Hugh Jackman is superhero cinema's longest-serving actor, having portrayed Wolverine in eight 'X-Men' movies over 17 years. That becomes nine next year when he plays the clawed mutant for the final time in 'Logan' – a near-future, western-style final hurrah that will finally revel in the character's violent, R-rated side. Ghost in the Shell (31 March)
The classic Japanese manga became an iconic anime thriller in 1995, and Hollywood has long had its eyes on a remake. Now in the editing suite, that remake is finally on its way with Scarlett Johansson in the lead role as The Major: a cyborg operative tasked with taking on cyber criminals. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 (28 April)
The first of three offerings from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2017 marks the anticipated return of its favourite band of space-faring anti-heroes in the follow-up to its most stylish and unique film to date. This time there are more Guardians and Kurt Russell is on board as Star-Lord's father Ego The Living Planet. Yes, a living planet. (Credit: Marvel Studios)

Wonder Woman (2 June)
Wonder Woman is the most famous superhero yet to star in their own big screen adventure and after debuting as one of the few positives in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice', Gal Gadot is ready give us the Wonder Woman film fans have craved for decades. She stars alongside Chris Pine and Robin Wright. (Credit: Warner Bros)

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (4 August)
One thing is for sure: there won't be another film like 'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets' in 2017. Luc Besson's return to science fiction is a lot closer to the futuristic vibrancy of 'Fifth Element' than the contemporary tech-thrills of 'Lucy' and the trailer certainly reflects this. Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne star as the space and time-travelling stars of the famed French graphic novel 'Valérian and Laureline'. (Credit: EuropaCorp)

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (29 September)
Matthew Vaughn's stylish spy-spoof was a surprise hit in 2014, so a sequel was inevitable. With a proven formula to work from but no comic book sequel from Mark Millar, the reins are off for a story that will involve the American version of the Kingsman spy outfit, Statesmen. The returning cast will be joined by Channing Tatum, Julianne Moore, Jeff Bridges and Elton John. (Credit: 20th Century Fox)

Thor: Ragnarok (27 October)
Neither of the 'Thor' movies to date made a huge impression but this third outing is sure to be, at the very least, a unique outing in the Marvel universe. In large part this is down to director and writer Taika Waititi ('What We Do In The Shadows') and his unique style that'll bring humour and style to an adventure that sees Chris Hemsworth's Thor team with Mark Ruffalo's Hulk in a space-faring battle against each other and Cate Blanchett's Hela. Justice League (17 November)
Warner Bro, Zack Snyder and all involved have gone out of their way to portray 'Justice League' as a different movie to the dour and dreadful 'Batman v Superman'. They want you to know that the first gathering of the comic book world's other elite superhero team will be funnier and lighter than we're accustomed to in the DC Extended Universe.
