Motorist Accused Of Driving His DeLorean Over 88mph By Police

In an example of life imitating the movies, a motorist has been caught speeding in his DeLorean at speeds of, wait for it, 88mph.

Nigel Mills, 55, of Brentwood was actually summoned to court after being accused of getting his 34-year-old sports car, a classic DeLorean made famous by the ‘Back to the Future’ films, to 89mph… so shouldn’t he have disappeared leaving blazing tire marks?

‘I was being prosecuted for going 89mph in a DeLorean, [but] wasn’t something meant to happen at 88mph?” Mr. Mills quipped (as reported by the Mail Online).

The incident took place in November of last year whereby Mr. Mills protested his innocence after receiving a court summons to Chelmsford Magistrates after two officers clocked him speeding. However, the case was thrown out after the officers in question were absent from the court date.

'It was at 11am on Sunday and the road was completely clear. I saw the guy with the speed gun and thought I check my speed. I can honestly say I was not trying to time travel,” Mr. Mills reassured everyone.

And it was cruelly ironic that he was ‘caught’ for the offence after admitting to rarely even driving the old vehicle. “Ironically I was done for speeding in the car that doesn’t get on the road much. I only drive it three or four times a year and did just 200 miles last year,’ he revealed.

'I’m a car fan and me and the rest of my family enjoyed the Back to the Future films,” he went on to say, and considering there were no present witnesses or evidence against Mr, Mills, we can only presume whoever issued him the ticket wasn’t a fan of the third film.

The DeLorean was made famous way back in 1985 where Michael J. Fox drove the cool-looking car through time as Marty McFly. Created by Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown, the car became iconic and synonymous with the movie trilogy that saw Robert Zemeckis direct and Steven Spielberg act as executive produce.

If only Nigel’s flux capacitor was working he could have avoided the entire incident.
