Netflix has revealed the trailer for That Christmas, its new animated festive film from Richard Curtis.

The movie is based on a trilogy of Christmas books by the filmmaker and will feature Succession’s Brian Cox in a role that couldn’t be further from the formidable Logan Roy.

The Scottish actor will be providing the voice of Father Christmas, while other cast members include Killing Eve actress Fiona Shaw, former Time Lord Jodie Whittaker, and Love Actually star Bill Nighy.

The new trailer gives fans a glimpse of the actors’ animated alter-egos, whose Christmas is under threat when a snowstorm hits and threatens to ruin everything.

The film “follows a series of entwined tales about family and friends, love and loneliness, and Santa Claus making a big mistake, not to mention an enormous number of turkeys,” according to Netflix.

That Christmas will also feature an original song, titled Under The Tree, which has been written and recorded by Ed Sheeran.

Curtis said: “This has been the most amazing adventure, my first animated film.

“It’s been especially exciting to see the whole world I imagined come to life beyond my wildest dreams – and populated by a dream bunch of actors, their wonderful voices turned into such rich and funny characters.”

It’s not the first time the director has forayed into festive movies and his love-it-or-hate-it 2003 release Love Actually remains a staple on the Christmas viewing calendar for many.

That Christmas will launch globally on Netflix on Wednesday, December 4.
