‘The Predator’ is stalking a new release date.

It’s no secret that ‘The Predator’ is making its big screen comeback – the upcoming sequel from director, Shane Black. But the iconic predatory alien has gone back into stealth mode for the time being… and won’t resurface until August 2018.

Originally slated for February 2018, ‘The Predator’ has been moved back by 20th Century Fox to its new release date – 3 August 2018.

But what does this mean for the long-awaited film?

Well, for one thing, it looks as though Shane Black gets an extra six months to get ‘The Predator’ up to scratch. Not that it sounds like he needs it – there’s been no reports of any difficulties on set, nor any kind of filming setbacks.

Instead, it looks as though the extra time is just icing on the cake.

And the real reason for its new release date – targeting a summer blockbuster success.

It’s no secret that a late summer release is far more favourable than a late winter one… and this shift in the tides could well show the studio’s confidence in the ‘Predator’ sequel.

Then there’s the competition, which is now pretty mild.

Now, with its new release date, ‘The Predator’ opens alongside ‘Holmes and Watson’ as well as a currently untitled Disney movie. The following week isn’t much better either, with Jason Statham’s ‘Meg’ and the ‘Scarface’ remake entering cinemas.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

But the studio seems pretty confident that it’s got this one bagged and tagged.

‘The Predator’ stars Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes, Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, and Keegan-Michael Key.

Shane Black will direct, based on a script he co-wrote with Fred Dekker.

‘The Predator’ heads to cinemas on 3 August 2018.
