Directing duo the Russo Brothers have revealed a selection of behind-the-scenes images and clips from the set of Avengers: Endgame to mark the first birthday of the superhero blockbuster.

The Russos took part in a watch-along session for the highest-grossing movie of all time on Twitter and chipped in with various details about the production.

The duo revealed that the crane shot revealing Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter dancing together was their favourite image from the movie and stated there was a time at which Rogers was going to be the Soul Stone.

They also shared several clips recorded covertly from within some of the first cinemas to see the film, reacting to what has now become known as the “portals scene”, as well as the final sacrifice of Iron Man.

The Russos shared special clips spotlighting several of the Avengers who will not appear in subsequent movies, including Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man and Chris Evans as Captain America.

They also revealed a clip of Evans dancing and mugging for the camera in the old age make-up he wore in one of the final scenes.

There was also a focus on introductions as the Russos revealed a clip of Brie Larson’s first day on set as she prepared to play Captain Marvel.

It has been a year since Avengers: Endgame provided the culmination of what has now been dubbed the ‘Infinity Saga’ of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

Since then, Spider-Man: Far From Home is the only Marvel film that has hit cinemas, with the planned Black Widow delayed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

That film — which unfolds earlier in the franchise chronology than Endgame — is now due to be released on 6 November.
