Shazam star Zachary Levi lands new role in Netflix space movie

Netflix have announced that they have picked up a brand new space movie from Richard Linklater, the director of Boyhood.

The streaming service will release Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Adventure, based on the Apollo 11 mission from 1696. The film will be a mix of animation and live action, with the filming for the latter already being completed in March before lockdown took place.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the film will star Jumanji: The Next Level's Jack Black and Shazam! leading man Zachary Levi in principal roles.

Other actors announced for the project include Top Gun: Maverick's Glen Powell, Giant Little One's Josh Wiggins, Red vs Blue's Lee Eddy, The Incredibles 2's Bill Wise, and newcomer Milo Coy, just to name a few.

Speaking about his connection to the project, Linklater is quoted as stating: "It struck me years ago that this was my film to make, from both a chronological and proximity level — I was there, going into third grade.

"Our unique animation style allows both the conjuring of a world long gone, and the flowing, playful expression of memory and imagination. It’s been a fun, creative journey to incorporate things like 3D graphics into a live-action shoot to help bring this story to life."

There hasn't been much word about a Shazam! sequel since last year (except for it being in the works), but Levi has said that his main objective with the follow-up is to bring "joy" to people.
