Simon Pegg and Nick Frost sell rights to new movie to Orion Pictures

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have sold the rights of their latest movie pitch to Orion Pictures.

The film, a horror entitled Svalta, follows a family on a summer holiday to a remote Swedish island. Little do they know the island, the fictional Svalta, has a serial killer on the prowl, and the locals are reluctant to offer any help.

Svalta will be made alongside Pegg and Frost’s production company, Stolen Picture, which they set up with pal Miles Ketley - who will produce the film with the pair. Frost is set to write the screenplay with Stolen Picture’s Creative Directors, Nat Saunders and James Serafinowicz. Dan Kagan will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.

Orion Pictures President John Hegeman has revealed he is excited to get started on the project. Hegeman said: “We are unbelievably excited to be partnering with Simon, Nick, and Miles on Svalta.

“The story is scary, awesome and crazy, and their unique voice is perfect for this movie. We can’t wait to bring this to the big screen with them.”

2019 marks twenty years since Pegg and Frost first gained success in cult sitcom Spaced. They have since worked together extensively, including on the so-called Cornetto Trilogy, which consisted of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.

Talking of the upcoming project, Ketley said: “Orion is the perfect home for the horrifying vision that Nick has conjured up from his maverick brain.

“We always said that everything we do has to come from left-field and find something unexpected at its centre and with this partnership with John and Dan and their amazing team, Svalta is the perfect project to do that.”

Sounds good, but what all movie fans are wondering - where will they be able buy a Cornetto on a remote Swedish island?
