New on Sky Cinema and NOW in April 2022: New movies and TV to stream from 'Dune' to 'Venom 2'

In the wake of last week's Oscars, the most successful movie from that ceremony is heading to UK audiences via Sky Cinema as six-time winner Dune arrives on the channel and streaming platform. It will be joined this month by superhero sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage and animated comedy The Boss Baby: Family Business.

Elsewhere, Sky launches a new series about telly cook Julia Child, starring Sarah Lancashire, and The Rising delivers a murder-mystery with a supernatural twist.

Of course, NOW offers the chance to purchase one of its bespoke memberships, reflecting the sort of stuff you want to watch. For movie lovers, there's the NOW Cinema Membership, while telly junkies can buy the NOW Entertainment Membership and sports fans have the NOW Sports Membership available.

Right to Fight (26 April)

One of a number of exciting feature-length documentaries recently commissioned by Sky, Right to Fight takes on the stories of several pioneering female boxers in the New York City of the 1970s. Despite their determination to step into the ring, they found themselves repeatedly denied licenses by authorities who deemed women too fragile to fight.

Abraham Lincoln (3 April)

This series explores one of the most famous American presidents in history, using scripted dramatisation of famous moments as well as new interviews. The roster of contributors is very impressive and includes Barack Obama among the famous faces.

Weird, Wild and Wonderful (3 April)

This nature documentary series focuses on some of the stranger critters walking the Earth, explaining why every quirk is necessary to make the natural world tick.

Music Profiles on Sky Arts (6 April)

This series of music documentaries focuses on some huge names and also spotlights some of the more unusual tales from the music world. There's a film paying tribute to Stephen Sondheim, as well as docs about The Go-Go’s and jazz legend John Coltrane. Oscar-winning doc Searching for Sugar Man is also a part of the offering.

Transplant S2 (7 April)

This medical drama returns with Hamza Haq again playing the role of Syrian refugee and gifted doctor Dr Bashir “Bash” Hamed. This time around, the hospital environment has been destabilised and the arrival of faces from Bash's past makes things even more precarious.

Africa’s Wild Roommates (10 April)

In the delicate ecosystems of the African savannah, sometimes animals need to work together in order to survive. This documentary special explores those strange bedfellows.

The Art of Architecture S3 (11 April)

The latest run of this series focusing on spectacular man-made structures features buildings including Sumayya Vally’s Serpentine Pavilion in London, Daniel Libeskind’s Holocaust Monument of Names in Amsterdam, and Liz Diller’s “The Shed” in New York.

Italian Season on Sky Arts (12 April)

Art history enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy in this selection of programmes about Italy's cultural history. The Lost Leonardo is akin to a heist thriller while Botticelli delves into the life and work of the famous painter and four-part series Art Traffickers: Treasures Stolen from the Tombs marries art with true crime.

Before TV schedules were full to the brim with charismatic chefs fronting cooking shows, there was Julia Child's trendsetting The French Chef. Sarah Lancashire plays the icon of 60s telly in this series, alongside David Hyde Pierce as her husband Paul.

Das Boot S3 (15 April)

This German submarine drama returns, focusing again on a U-boat crew during the Second World War as they are hunted down by the Royal Navy. A separate thread follows the fighting on the Eastern Front.

Ross Kemp: Shipwreck Treasure Hunter (18 April)

Having long established himself as a documentary maker as well as an actor, Ross Kemp delves into his family's maritime history for this series in which he explores some of the UK's most impressive shipwrecks. He is joined by expert diver Emily Turton and maritime archaeologist Mallory Haas.

Station 19 S5, Part 2 (20 April)

Returning after its winter hiatus, this Grey's Anatomy spin-off returns to a Seattle fire station to explore the day-to-day lives of its brave firefighters.

The Rising (22 April)

This intriguing murder-mystery series features Clara Rugaard as murder victim Neve Kelly, who decides to use her new supernatural powers to locate her own killer from beyond the grave. Adapted from the Belgian crime thriller Hotel Beau Séjour, the series sees Neve uncover dark secrets about her own life and those around her.

Grey's Anatomy S18, Part 2 (27 April)

The latest run of the medical drama behemoth sees the staff of Grey Sloan Memorial grappling with the aftermath of the car crash which affected several major characters.
