Yahoo Movies 'Star Wars 9' to return to iconic British location
As pre-production on J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode IX continues to ramp up, the first details on the film’s shoot are beginning to creep out.
The follow up to 2017’s The Last Jedi is scheduled to start shooting in the UK at the end of July, most likely at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, and now it sounds like the production will also be filming some scenes at Bedfordshire’s Cardington Sheds too.
The airship hangars were first utilised by Lucasfilm on the original Star Wars with the cavernous space playing host to the Rebellion’s Yavin 4 base. The series returned to Cardington to recreate the same set for 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The huge airship sheds were originally part of RAF Cardington, and were used to store airships and barrage balloons before they were taken out of military service in the late 1940s. They’re now leased out to Warner Bros. and have been used on many huge Hollywood productions including Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Inception, Justice League, and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.
The news of Episode IX’s return to the iconic location comes via Cardington Sheds enthusiast Trevor Monk who shared the information with his followers on Twitter.

It’s not clear what scenes will be shot at Cardington, or if they’ll be recreating Yavin 4 or a brand new location. Yavin 4 has not been seen in the Skywalker saga since the Battle of Yavin that climaxed with the destruction of the original Death Star in the first film.
Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, and Oscar Isaac are all set to return for the final chapter in the sequel trilogy.
Star Wars: Episode IX will hit cinemas in December 2019.
