According to an official statement at StarWars.com, the 50-year-old star of ‘The Wire’ is joining the upcoming Han Solo ‘Star Wars’ spin-off, alongside Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover.

Michael K. Williams is perhaps best known as Omar Little in the hit HBO drama, ‘The Wire’, but he’s also gained popularity as Albert ‘Chalky’ White on the TV show, ‘Boardwalk Empire’.

Of course, he’s no stranger to the big screen, either and has appeared in the likes of ‘Assassin’s Creed’, ‘Ghostbusters’ and even ‘Inherent Vice’ in recent years. He was also part of the Oscar-nominated cast in ’12 Years A Slave’.

But who will he be playing?

According to Variety journalist Justin Kroll (who broke the news prior to Disney’s official announcement) he may be on board as the film’s villain.

Whether or not he turns out to be the villain, I can’t help thinking that Michael K. Williams is going to kill it – and it could be a stroke of genius to get him on board.

But will he face off against everyone’s favourite scruffy-looking nerf-herder?

For now, we have to wait and see.

The untitled ‘Han Solo’ movie stars Alden Ehrenreich as the infamous smuggler, alongside Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke and Michael K Williams.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will direct, based on a script by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan.

The untitled ‘Han Solo’ movie heads to cinemas on 25 May 2018.
