Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Gruesome Chewbacca Scene Cut From Film

Surprisingly, there was around 20 minutes of footage cut from J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, including a rather grisly scene involving Chewbacca, if rumour is to be believed.

Possible spoilers to follow!

Speaking to Collider, the ‘Super 8′ director revealed that around 20 minutes was edited from the two hour 15 runtime, but we’re not entirely sure what’s been left out for the DVD and what was in the script but cut before filming began.

Den of Geek reckon they’ve sufficient evidence to assume one of the deleted scenes is a violent one involving Chewbacca in the cantina on the planet of Takodana.

The novelisation of ‘The Force Awakens’ contains a scene where Chewie protects Rey from the scrap dealer she ‘borrowed’ the Millennium Falcon off named Unkar Plutt (the uncredited character played by Simon Pegg).

Remember Han warning C-3PO something about ripping one’s arms out of one’s sockets? Well that’s what we finally get to see!

After having her gun snatched by Plutt, Chewbacca defends her by grabbing and ripping his arms off, which is nice.

The novel states:

“Grabbing the thrusting arm, a roaring Chewbacca twisted and ripped it off at the shoulder, throwing the dismembered limb clear across the room. Looking down at himself, Plutt let out a scream of agony…”

Obviously if this was a removed scene it was done so because it’d be too extreme for a 12a. However, we can only hope that it was actually filmed and will therefore appear on the DVD extras.
