Terry Gilliam’s Don Quixote Finally Shoots This September

It’s official – ‘Don Quixote’ begins filming this September… supposedly.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Terry Gilliam’s plagued production has just been refinanced… and ‘Don Quixote’ will begin shooting later this year.

“Paulo Branco is stepping in as producer for Terry Gilliam’s beleaguered The Man Who Killed Don Quixote,” they revealed. “The budget is set at $18.25 million (€16 million), with principal photography starting in September in Spain and Portugal.”

Of course, the history of Terry Gilliam’s ‘Don Quixote is a rather murky one.

“The Man Who Killed Don Quixote has reached almost mythical status after years of failed attempts to complete it and even resulted in a documentary on its ill-fated journey to the screen in 2002’s Lost in La Mancha when Johnny Depp was the star.”

As well as Johnny Depp, we’ve seen the likes of Ewan McGregor and Robert DuVall attached to star in ‘Don Quixote’. But the movie never quite managed to get off the ground.

In fact, it’s been over a decade of false starts and near misses… but now it looks as though the formerly ill-fated film is back on track. At least, for now.

“The latest cast is the legendary John Hurt and Unbroken star Jack O'Connell,” they revealed. “Further delays were caused by Hurt’s diagnosis of pancreatic cancer early last year.”

Thankfully, John Hurt was given the all-clear back in October 2015… and it looks as though he might end up starring in the now-legendary production after all.

But will ‘Don Quixote’ really, actually happen?

That’s the plan… but we’re remaining sceptical until the cameras start rolling.
