The Exorcist TV Pilot To Be Directed By Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' Rupert Wyatt

British director Rupert Wyatt is set to direct the pilot of Fox’s upcoming TV reboot of horror classic ‘The Exorcist’.

Wyatt is best known for crime thriller 'The Escapist’ and 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ - the successful reboot of the famed sci-fi series that spawned a sequel in 2014 and another set for release in 2017.

Deadline describes the series as a modern reinvention of William Blatty’s 1971 book. The pilot’s script is being written by 'Fantastic Four’ writer Jeremy Slater.

The series is also described as a “propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession and confronting the face of true evil.”

Since the success of 'Rise’ in 2011, Wyatt’s Hollywood career hasn’t exactly taken off. He pulled out of making the sequel ('Cloverfield’s Matt Reeves took over) and more recently Channing Tatum’s 'X-Men’ spin-off 'Gambit’.

His one film since the 'Apes’ success was 'The Gambler’, which starred Mark Wahlberg. He also directed the pilot of AMC historical drama 'Turn’.

'The Exorcist’ was of course adapted into a peerless horror classic by William Friedkin in 1973. The film starred Max von Sydow and Linda Blair.
