The Exorcist TV Series Finds Its Regan

Brianne Howey will star in Fox’s upcoming TV adaptation of ‘The Exorcist’.

According to Deadline, the young American actress, known for her recurring role in ‘Scream Queens’, has been cast as possessed teen, Charlotte, in the upcoming ‘Exorcist’ TV pilot.

“Brianne Howey (Scream Queens) has signed on for a series regular role in Fox drama pilot The Exorcist, a modern reinvention inspired by William Blatty’s 1971 book,” they revealed.

“Written by Jeremy Slater, The Exorcist is described as a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession and confronting the face of true evil.”

But who is Charlotte? It looks as though Brianne Howey’s character is going to be this generation’s Regan… sort of… but with a bit of a modern twist.

“Howey will play Charlotte, a former ballet dancer, once the golden child, she has not been the same since her terrible accident,” they explain. “Now depressed and anti-social, she’s closed off and guarded. So much so that her mother has begun to believe she might be influenced by a demon, though the thought would make Charlotte laugh.”

It sounds as though Howey will be taking the Regan role, played by Linda Blair in the original 1973 horror flick.

But clearly, the upcoming TV adaptation heads off in a very different direction to the original movie… where Regan’s demonic possession is not up for debate.

Will this modern TV series tackle head-spinning, projectile-vomiting possession?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

But it sounds as though Fox is aiming for a far more mainstream audience than the original horror… and that might prove to be a disappointment for the fans.
