Jon Favreau's lavish remake of the 1994 classic had a staggering $250 million budget, and was billed as a photorealistic live action movie.

However, only one shot from the movie is actually 'live-action' footage, and that's the very first of the entire movie, of the African savannah.

Many (many) on Twitter remarked at the time that whether the movie was 'live-action' or 'animated' was barely up for debate.

But it appears Disney isn't regarding the movie as animation, be it some of the most advanced animation currently possible.

It's expected that the movie will be gunning for the award in the Visual Effects category.

The nominations for the 2020 Oscars arrive on January 13, with the awards set for February 9.
