Tom Hanks lands three worst actor nominations at this year's Razzie Awards

The two-time Oscar winner was one of the most recognised stars for this year's "anti-Oscars"

Tom Hanks is used to getting acknowledged at awards ceremonies – but his latest nods are probably not what he had in mind with three nominations at this year's Razzies.

The Razzies, the self-proclaimed 'ugly cousin of the Oscars', has shared their annual shortlist for the worst performances and films of the past year.

While Netflix's Marilyn Monroe film Blonde tops the leaderboard with eight nominations, followed by Machine Gun Kelly's 'stoner flick' Good Mourning, Hanks's inclusion is arguably the most shocking with two of his roles making the list.

The double Oscar award-winning actor is up for worst actor for Gepetto in Disney's remake of Pinocchio and worst supporting actor for this year's awards-darling Elvis.

He's also managed to get a nod for "worst screen couple" for Elvis, being partnered in jest with his "latex-laden face and ludicrous accent" as Colonel Tom Parker, the King's manager.

Disney's Pinocchio (not to be confused with Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio, which was also released last year) was the third most voted-for film on this year's ballot, earning six nods out of the possible nine categories.

Critically-panned superhero flick Morbius is just behind with five, with leading man Jared Leto going against Hanks for worst actor.

The "winners" of this year's awards will be announced on Saturday, 11 March – a day before this year's prestigious Oscars ceremony. Only a handful of nominees have ever attended, or even acknowledged, the ceremony.

Only one star has ever walked away with an Oscar and a Razzie on the same weekend, with Sandra Bullock graciously attending the ceremony in 2010.

Collecting her worst actress golden raspberry, Bullock then distributed DVDs of the "winning" movie All About Steve to the crowd from a trolley she trailed behind her.
