Warcraft: The Beginning Trailer Reveals Epic Battles Galore

The first trailer for the upcoming ‘Warcraft: The Beginning’ movie has appeared online… and it’s already taken the internet by storm.

Directed by Duncan Jones, ‘Warcraft: The Beginning’ takes us deep into the videogame franchise, with a whole host of nods and winks to gamers. Set in the fantasy world of Azeroth, we find the once-peaceful Humans standing on the brink of war against the Orcs – a race of creatures who have fled their dying world of Draenor.

But is there room for the Horde and the Alliance?

And what can we expect from the upcoming fantasy adventure?

- King Kong VS Godzilla Movie In The Works
- Could A Zombie Apocalypse Really Happen?

‘Warcraft: The Beginning’ stars Travis Fimmel as Sir Anduin Lothar (the main Alliance protagonist) as well as Toby Kebbell as Durotan, the Orc Chief. Of course, ‘Warcraft’ fans will likely know who these characters are… and how they fit into the grand scheme of things.

But everyone else might be left scratching their heads…

Alongside Travis Fimmel on the Aliance side, we have Ben Foster as Medivh the Mage, Dominic Cooper as King Llane Wrynn, Ben Schnetzer as Khadgar, Ruth Negga as Lady Taria Wrynn, and Dylan Schombing as Prince Varian Wrynn.

On the Horde, we have Robert Kazinsky as Orgrim Doomhammer, Daniel Wu as Gul'dan, Clancy Brown as Blackhand, Terry Notary as Grommash Hellscream, and Anna Galvin as Draka, Durotan’s wife.

But what does all this mean to fans of the games?

First Look at Stormwind

Fans of ‘World of Warcraft’ will no doubt be incredibly familiar with the Human capital city… and in the first trailer, we get a glimpse of that unmistakable skyline.

Right in the centre, we see the Cathedral of Light – one of the towering marvels of Stormwind… and is that a glimpse of the iconic Mage Quarter to the far right? Either way, this iconic ‘Warcraft’ city has never looked better. Let’s just hope it stays that way…

A Glimpse of Dalaran?

Khadgar is seen making his way up a rather tricky staircase… and is met by what looks like a council of mages. But could this be the magical city of Dalaran?

image

In the videogames, Dalaran is the home of a magocratic society, established to help those studying the arcane arts to focus on their studies. Built atop a massive ley line, the city itself is founded upon magic… and that makes it a pretty good place for Khadgar to hang out.

(And those definitely look like Kirin Tor robes to me)

A Good Look at Sir Anduin Lothar

He may be the star of ‘Warcraft: The Beginning’, but this is the first time we’ve actually got a good look at Travis Fimmel as Sir Anduin Lothar.

Dubbed ‘The Lion of Azeroth’, this human warrior is considered to be one of the greatest leaders during the Orc invasion… and he already looks suitably fighty. Somebody’s been training up his fighting skills.

Some Impressive Battle Scenes

It wouldn’t be ‘Warcraft’ without some fairly hefty clashes between the Alliance and the Horde… and this movie seems to have them by the bucketload.

Based on the original game, ‘Warcraft: Orcs and Humans’ it’s obvious that there were going to be a few skirmishes… and by the looks of it, we can look forward to some impressive and highly-visual battle scenes.

Everything a ‘Warcraft’ fan needs.

A Good Look at the Orcs

Here, we finally meet the Orcs – Durotan and Orgrim. And what’s that massive wolf?

image

‘Warcraft: The Beginning’ clearly enjoys tipping the hat to the video game series, including the iconic Wargs – enormous wolves which the Orcs ride into battle. And as the Orcs look over the unfamiliar land they’ve found on Azeroth, it looks as though they may have ended up in Westfall.

There’s even a subtle nod to ‘World of Warcraft’ with the appearance of Harvest Golems wandering around in the fields.

There are plenty of other blink-and-you’ll-miss-it nods to the videogame series – including a quick appearance of some High Elves and even a Dwarf in there somewhere. And let’s face it – the entire trailer is packed with ‘Warcraft’ lore.

But will it be able to keep the average audience happy, or is this one for the fans?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Warcraft: The Beginning’ heads to cinemas on 3 June 2016.
