The second season of The Wheel of Time, based on Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy book series, has landed on Prime Video.

The Rosamund Pike-led drama first hit screens in 2021, introducing viewers to the world of Jordan’s novels and the quest to find an entity known as The Dragon Reborn who could either save the world from the Dark One, or destroy it.

Here is everything you know about season 2 and what it will entail.

The Wheel of Time season 2 release date

The Wheel of Time season 2 is officially here. The first three episodes landed on Prime Video on Friday, 1 September, but fans will have to wait to watch the rest of the season.

The remaining five episodes will be released one-by-one every Friday, meaning the season finale is due to arrive on 6 October.

Was the new season of The Wheel of Time worth waiting for? Well, it depends on who you ask.

The Telegraph praised the season's performances, led by Pike, but was less than complimentary about its production, saying that the "costumes still look fake, the sets have a cardboard sheen, and the pacing is all over the place."

Total Film on the other hand was more complimentary, saying "the first four episodes are anything to go by, we're in for a treat." Elsewhere, Techradar wanted more, suggesting that series two isn't as "epic as it could be."

The Wheel of Time season 2 plot

Following the events of season 1, the second season will follow Rand al’Thor who has discovered he is The Dragon Reborn.

The Aes Sedai, powerful sorceresses, are desperate to protect Rand from the Dark One, but they will also have to reckon with his growing, unstable power. Though Rand believed he had killed the Dark One, evil has not yet been vanquished from the land and threats new and old begin to emerge.

Rand will have to bring together his friends who travelled with him in season 2, and because Moiraine is powerless to help the group will have to find strength within themselves to face the evil that awaits them.

Rosamund Pike will return to season 2 to reprise her role as Moiraine Damodred, while Daniel Henney will play her companion Lan Mandragoran, and Josha Stradowski will play Rand al'Thor.

Zoë Robins returns as Nynaeve al'Meara, as does Madeleine Madden as Egwene al'Vere, and Marcus Rutherford plays Perrin Aybara. The cast is rounded out by Dónal Finn who portrays Mat Cauthon, and Ceara Coveney as Elayne Trakand.

Barney Harris previously portrayed Mat, but he was recast in season 2 for undisclosed reasons.

The Wheel of Time season 2 trailer

The show's official trailer was released on Wednesday, 19 July and it gave fans their first glimpse at what is to come in the forthcoming episodes of the fantasy hit.
