Murder, She Wrote movie confirmed with Orange Is the New Black duo
A new Murder, She Wrote movie has been confirmed, with Orange Is the New Black duo Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum on writing duties.
The pair, who worked as staff writers on season 5 of Orange Is the New Black, are also on board to executive produce the film.
Speaking to Collider ahead of the release of their new movie Dumb Money, Schuker Blum and Angelo said Universal commissioned them to reboot the iconic series, adapting it into a feature film.
The original show, which ran for 264 episodes, starred the legendary Angela Lansbury as her most famous character, Jessica Fletcher.
The original show followed Lansbury's Jessica as she attempted to use her wit to solve baffling murder mysteries in the fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine.
Breaking the news about the upcoming project, Schuker Blum said: "We'll tell you one thing that hasn't been reported yet, which is we have written a theatrical feature film version of Murder, She Wrote for Universal, and we're really excited."
Echoing her writing partner's sentiment, Angelo said: "It's with Pascal Pictures in Pascal and Universal, and we're very excited to bring [Jessica Fletcher to the big screen]." She later added that it's the character's "time to return".
According to the duo, Universal is also "very excited" about the upcoming reboot.

As part of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike action, Schuker Blum and Angelo said it has been a few months since they discussed the project with Universal or Pascal Pictures, but the studios are "gung-ho" for the project.
As of yet, no casting news has been announced — but that may have to wait until the strikes end and an agreement is made.
