Natasha Lyonne working on her feature directorial debut

Natasha Lyonne hopes to direct her first movie soon.

The Orange Is the New Black star revealed to The New York Times that she has been writing her first feature whenever her hectic schedule allows and she expects to direct it soon "if we can just get me a second or third self".

Lyonne, 45, remained coy when asked to reveal details about her feature directorial debut.

"If you're a dog person, then you're going to love it, because it plays with time, just like dog years do," she shared vaguely. "It's heavy, if you're a heavy cat, and if you're an even heavier cat - well, it's a comedy."

However, the Russian Doll star admitted that she won't consider it a failure if her first movie doesn't come to fruition.

"I don't really take too seriously a pass as a failure. I have a lived experience that it's actually not how it works. It just hasn't found its correct permutation yet," the former child star explained. "That's mostly to say to the kids at home, you never know what the destiny of your own work is."

Lyonne has plenty of directing experience in television. She co-created, co-wrote and directed several episodes of her Netflix series Russian Doll and she is currently serving as the writer, director, producer and star of Poker Face, which is filming its second season.

Singing her praises as a behind-the-scenes creative, Poker Face creator Rian Johnson told the publication, "The best way I can put it is, she runs at a high creative frequency in all things in life. She's brilliant... It's mind-boggling to me the amount of stuff that she juggles. I couldn't move at the pace she does. And she seems to genuinely thrive in that place."

If her project gets the go-ahead, Lyonne will have to find space in her schedule between making Poker Face, filming The Fantastic Four: First Steps and voicing a character in The Smurfs Movie.
