National Treasure 3 isn't the only thing fans of the franchise have to look forward to, because a Disney+ TV series is now also in development.
Back in January, it was announced that a third instalment of the treasure-hunting movie series was in the works. Now, we know that the original cast members – Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger and Justin Bartha – will be reprising their roles.
As for the newly-announced Disney+ TV show, while still being based around the same concept, it will be fronted by a new, much younger cast.
In an interview with Collider, producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed: "We're certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we're working on one for the big screen.
"Hopefully, they'll both come together and we'll bring you another National Treasure, but they're both very active.
"The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It's the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast."
Bruckheimer went on to reveal that the script for National Treasure 3 – which will see original director Jon Turteltaub back at the helm – is currently being written, while a pilot script for the TV series is already finished, along with an outline for future episodes.
"The film version is being written right now. The television version is in process. We have a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes," he said.
