Yahoo Movies Netflix cracks down on password sharing in four countries
The streaming giant has shared guidelines for users in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain
Netflix has taken a big step in its password crackdown by unveiling guidelines for four countries.
The streaming giant has made it clear that “a Netflix account is intended for one household” and had already been trying new measures in South America.
And it has now said that a new approach will be rolled out in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain.

It means users will need to pay an extra sum if they want to share their account with people outside of their home.
A message on Netflix’s site said: “We’ve always made it easy for people who live together to share their Netflix account with features like profiles and multiple streams.
"While these have been hugely popular, they’ve also created confusion about when and how you can share Netflix. Today, over 100 million households are sharing accounts – impacting our ability to invest in great new TV and films.
“So over the last year, we’ve been exploring different approaches to address this issue in Latin America, and we’re now ready to roll them out more broadly in the coming months, starting today in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain.”
People with Netflix accounts will be able to set a primary location.
They will also be able to watch Netflix while travelling, using their personal devices or logging into a new TV at a hotel or holiday rental.
And they can pay for extra members they don't live with.
Earlier this month it was reported that online searches for “cancel Netflix account” soared amid reports of the crackdown on password sharing.

Comparison site JohnSlots said analysis of Google search data showed that online interest in the term "exploded 733% worldwide".
