Yahoo Movies Netflix just added James McAvoy thriller you probably haven't seen
Netflix has added My Son, a mystery thriller starring James McAvoy and Claire Foy, to its roster.
The 2021 film sees McAvoy play a guilt-ridden absentee father, who travels to the town of his ex-wife (Foy) to investigate the disappearance of his son.
The thriller, which was directed by Christian Carion, has now been added to Netflix’s roster, with UK audiences now being able to watch the stylistically bold feature.

Upon the release of My Son, it was revealed that McAvoy was only provided with the outline of the story rather than dialogue or a script, meaning the actor had to improvise his role as he went along.
“James will be doing the detective work of the film in real time, on camera, to create real tension for this thriller,” said producer Adam Fogelson. “We like to support bold and innovative storytelling like My Son, and Claire could not be a more spectacular or exciting choice for this film which is certain to thrill audiences.”
Whilst fans can now tuck into one of McAvoy’s more interesting roles, the star previously revealed that he likely wouldn’t return to his role as Charles Xavier/Professor X from the X-Men franchise, with the actor admitting that the films had some teething issues.

“My biggest criticism of what we did throughout the four movies was that after the first movie, we didn't take advantage of the relationship between Xavier and Magento,” he said. “That] really formed the backbone of the first film [First Class], so it was like ‘why did we just eject that massive weapon?’”
Despite having some gripes with the narrative, McAvoy did reveal that his experience with the superhero genre was positive overall, recalling: “It was one of the most positive experiences I've had with a studio. I don't really [see them as just] money gigs. Days of Future Past is one of the better films that I've been involved in.
My Son is streaming on Netflix now.
