Directed by Free Guy’s Shawn Levy, the initial trailer for the film looks like the perfect combination of comedy and sci-fi adventure.

Adam, played by Reynolds, is a wounded time traveller from 2050. After damaging his ship, Adam winds up back to 2022, specifically at his childhood home.

The trailer for the movie starts by showing us Garner talking to her young son Adam (Walker Scobell) about being suspended from school for fights, as we see him being punched in the face by a bully.

“I don’t understand you,” Garner says.

“Dad would,” Adam replies.

That dad is played by Ruffalo, who died before the child Adam is met with his adult self.

But Adam ends up teaming up with his younger self and his late father to save the future of the planet, while also coming to terms with his past, and looking for the woman he loves Laura, played by Zoe Saldana.

“Time travel exists,” older Adam says in the trailer. “This world, our world, has already been changed.”

He goes on to say that he intends to “put the genie back in the bottle.”

“Our greatest journeys bring us back,” text on the screen in the trailer reads.

"To say I had the time of my life making this film would be an understatement," Reynolds tweeted on Thursday. "And a misleading reference to Dirty Dancing."

"I haven't personally done a movie that reflects my life the way The Adam Project does," the actor said.
