Netflix's hit shark thriller is getting a sequel
Netflix's French shark thriller Under Paris is getting a sequel.
The first disaster film, which is currently the streaming service's second most-popular non-English language movie ever, follows a scientist named Sophia as she teams up with a police commander to lure a shark in the Seine back to the ocean - with deadly consequences.
According to Variety, Under Paris is now getting a follow-up instalment, with Bérénice Bejo set to reprise her role as Sophia alongside Nassim Lyes as police commander Adil.

During an interview with La Tribune, Bejo revealed that the sequel will begin filming in September 2025.
Released on Netflix on June 5, Under Paris debuted with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (it's now gone down to 63%), with some critics praising it as "tremendously enjoyable" and "thrilling".
The site's critics' consensus reads: "Marrying environmental themes with bloody thrills, this Gallic entry into the shark attack canon ultimately lands on the right side of ridiculous fun."

The film is currently number two on Netflix's most-popular non-English language movies, taking in over 177 million hours viewed, with 102.3 million views in total.
It sits behind 2022 Norwegian monster movie Troll, while Spanish movies Society of the Snow, Nowhere and The Platform take the third, fourth and fifth spots.
It was confirmed last year that Troll is also getting a sequel, after garnering 103 million views in its first 91 days and ranking in the Top 10 in 93 countries. It also topped those charts in Norway, the USA and the UK.
The first film followed a gigantic creature that woke up after a thousand years in captivity, wreaking havoc on its path towards Oslo.
Under Paris is streaming now on Netflix, but a release date for the sequel has not yet been confirmed.
